The Western Prairie Jr. Klippers are back on home ice this weekend. Well, sort of.

The local Saskatchewan Junior Female Hockey League squad will in fact be playing an SJFHL home game out of the Eston AGT Arena on Saturday against the Southwest Impact. On Sunday the Klippers have another home game, taking on the Saskatoon Prairie Blaze in Maidstone.

WestCentralOnline reached out to Klippers director Mike Cullen to gain some insight on the upcoming games.

"Part of when I organized the scheduling, I wanted to include west-central Saskatchewan. I set up games in Eston, Kerrobert, and the one up in Maidstone just to try and get everyone involved." said Cullen, later sharing more on why they chose the community of Eston. "I do have a goaltender, Roadhouse, she's from Eston. (The town) has been very popular in female hockey for years, so I was really happy they were interested in a game and gave us some ice availability."

One of several local Klippers, Roadhouse is a good example of what the team wants to build. Part of the reason Cullen scheduled in a place like Maidstone was to expand the Western Prairie horizon.

They have players from around Kindersley, but really want to exercise the borders of the west-central region. Cullen believes these games today, will ultimately help the Western Prairie Klippers tomorrow, and the overall image of the newly created league as well.

"Right now we are trying to get this league off the ground, and the more communities we can involve, the better the league will be, and the better visibility we will have with everybody in west-central Saskatchewan."

The Klippers last action was the weekend of January 6-7 when they split a weekend series, the win coming against Friday's opponents in the Southwest Impact.

After this weekend there will be even more neutral site action. On January 28 the Klippers will be the road team as they take on the Saskatoon Prairie Blaze from Biggar Jubilee Stadium, and then on Saturday, February 3 the Klippers will finally return to the West Central Events Centre for a 4:00 PM game against the Regina Rebels.
