The Western Prairie Klippers of the Saskatchewan Junior Female Hockey League are back in action this weekend, Saturday in Swift Current, and Sunday in Saskatoon. The U22 team played a pair of exhibitions over the last month, keeping their legs fresh after not playing a league game since November 19.

The first exhibition game took place in St. Brieux on December 10 against the North East Aces, where the girls lost in a tight game 3-2. The Klippers then hosted the Lashburn Shooters a few weeks later on December 23, and it was a special occasion as local Klipper Gracie Georget took to the ice for the first time after signing in late August 2023.

Looking ahead to this weekend's games, first off on Saturday they will matchup with the winless Southwest Impact. It's the first matchup of the season between the two teams, the Impact coming off a 5-1 loss to the Outlook Ice Hawks back on December 30.

After their Saturday night game in Swift Current, the focus will shift to a short turnaround Sunday afternoon in Saskatoon. The Klippers are scheduled to take on the Saskatoon Prairie Blaze, who are enjoying a nice season so far at 7-1.

Western Prairie's leading scorer into the new year is Laiken Swan who has seven points in seven games. Local goalie Rilyn Roadhouse and Quterie Tipewan have shared the crease so far to the tune of about a 3.50 GAA each.

After the weekend road trip, the Klippers will wait exactly one week before returning to Saskatoon to face the Prairie Blaze. The Klippers next home game is scheduled for January 20 at 7:00 PM, once again taking on the Southwest Impact.
