With the SHSAA boys provincials set to go around the province this weekend, volleyball nets are going up for one more week of high-school competition. A local tournament will be played in Unity for 3A provincials, and then 2A Wilkie will be heading to Ponteix for their final test.

Beginning with Wilkie, 2A teams joining them in action this weekend include Saskatoon Christian, Muenster, the hosts Ponteix, and Meath Park. Those teams are in Pool A, as Pool B consists of Makwa, MJ Cornerstone, Birch Hills, Langenburg, and Kincaid.

Wilkie's McLurg School Broncs will be in Ponteix for their section of pool play. Things open Friday at noon against Saskatoon Christian, before their second game of the day at 3:00 PM against the hosts. Wilkie will then have to wait until their 6:00 PM matchup against Muenster, leading them into Sunday's final round-robin matchup against Meath Park at 11:00 AM, the location shifting to Pambrun.

Moving over to 3A, teams invading Unity include Assiniboia, Osler VCA, Regina Christian, Clavet, and Spiritwood in Pool A. The host team Unity is in Pool B with Esterhazy, Dalmeny, Kipling, and Shaunavon.

The Unity Warriors aren't in action until the second set of games on Friday, taking on Kipling in their opener at 1:00 PM. After that the Warriors play Shaunavon at 4:00, and then Dalmeny at 6:00 PM to finish day one. Saturday's only game will be at 10:00 AM, ahead of the playoff bracket beginning just after a short break at noon.

Each tournament this weekend will have a champion by Saturday evening, as another great year of SHSAA volleyball closes out around Saskatchewan.

Back at the beginning of November when we checked in with Unity senior girls volleyball coach Vicki Orobko, she mentioned her girls team (fresh off a run to provincials) will be volunteering this weekend to let the boys and perhaps their parents focus on the action.

Find the previous story with Orobko below, as good luck goes out to all senior boys teams in their respective SHSAA provincials this weekend.
