Senior girls volleyball teams around the province will be getting their first taste of post-season action this weekend. SHSAA conference tournaments are being held around Saskatchewan, including local brackets in Perdue, Eston, Macklin, Outlook, and Unity.

The tournament in Unity will consist of the hometown UCHS Warriors, along with Biggar, Delisle, Maidstone, Ministikwan, and Neilburg.

The Warriors are led by head coach Vicki Orobko. The committed coach was with the Warriors every step of the way during their regular season. Their season included tournaments in Wilkie, Maple Creek, Lanigan, North Battleford, Macklin, and Fort Qu'appelle. A second place finish in Fort Qu'appelle, and third places in each of Wilkie, North Battleford and their home tournaments highlighted their results.

"Our season was a lot of fun." shared Orobko ahead of the big tournament this weekend.

That's an understatement. Orobko is a coach who makes sure fun goes hand-in-hand with competition, evidenced by the pink-tastic Halloween photo (pictured above) from their most recent tournament in Macklin.

Dressing up for the final tournament of October is becoming a tradition.

"Last year the girls were minions and I was Vector. This year I suggested Barbies and they were all over it! They bought the tees and one girl did the stickers for the shirts."

The Warriors play their first game of the tournament at 12:00 PM on Saturday, with the tournament final culminating the night at 7:00 PM. The top two finishers will qualify for regionals, and compete for one of three spots at SHSAA Provincials in Indian Head November 17-18.

Orobko also wanted to mention that UCHS is hosting senior boys volleyball provincials November 24-25. The senior girls will be helping out as volunteers, and hopefully they can do it with an SHSAA gold medal to their name.
