After months of work behind the scenes, the first-ever Sask. Party nomination for the new constituency of Kindersley-Biggar is set to take place on Thursday, December 14 in Kindersley at the Kindersley Inn.

The two official candidates are current MLA for Biggar-Sask Valley Randy Weekes, and Kim Gartner who is the current CAO for the Town of Macklin. This process began with the first constituency meeting back on March 31, and the nomination deadline recently closed on November 30.

Weekes is the current Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. On the campaign trail for months now, Weekes received an endorsement from a former minister back in September. Weekes has also been holding different meet-and-greets since March.

Gartner on the other-hand is currently involved in local politics within the Town of Macklin. The administrator spoke with us earlier in November about bringing a nurse practitioner to Macklin through an agreement with the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Gartner's nomination papers were confirmed around the beginning of October.

The upcoming nomination will run between 5:30 and 7:30 PM on December 14. Anyone planning to vote needed to have their Saskatchewan Party membership bought or renewed prior to December 7, though anyone with memberships that have lapsed within sixty days of the nomination meeting will be able to renew at the door.

More information on the nomination can be found by contacting The Saskatchewan Party at (306) 359-1638. WestCentralOnline has reached out to each candidate for an interview prior the the official nomination.
