Current MLA for Biggar-Sask Valley Randy Weekes booked some time at the Biggar Museum earlier this week for a special announcement. The Honorable Rob Norris, a former caucus and cabinet colleague of Weekes, was on hand as a guest speaker.

Weekes shared with WestCentralOnline that Norris gave a "passionate and inspired speech about issues going on in Saskatchewan and across the world". Similar discussions have been taking place across 2023 at coffee parties hosted by Weekes.

Aside from community discussions, the former MLA for Saskatoon Greystone in Brad Wall's government Norris was in Biggar to give Weekes the following endorsement regarding his Saskatchewan Party nomination for the constituency of Kindersley/Biggar in 2024.

"During these times, I'd want this hardworking gentleman in my corner any day and every day - because he's in your corner, never forgetting his roots, working for farm families, advocating for small business owners, being a champion for Saskatchewan's oil, gas, and energy sectors, while supporting working families, seniors, and students." Norris was quoted in a news release provided by Weekes. "He's working for all of you. Because he knows his craft, he demonstrates his commitment to his constituents."

Another quote from Norris had to do with Weekes experience, being in positions such as Government Whip, Caucus Chair, and a specific mention of Weekes' time spent as the Minister of Rural and Remote Health.

"As the new constituency expands, he's going to take this rare ministerial expertise and experience in health care and continue to do good work here in Biggar, Kindersley, and beyond." Norris continued. "The more your MLA knows, the better positioned he or she is to better serve your interests."

Norris finished with stating the following.

"Part of (Weekes) strength isn't simply being a student, but he's a 'political teacher'."

Weekes has been working to balance the campaign trail with his time as a local MLA. More news on the upcoming nomination should come out by the end of 2023, though it won't be long before Weekes returns to his duties as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan and puts the emphasis back on serving Saskatchewan when Legislature returns on October 25, 2023.
