An emergency debate into cyberbullying was called for by Premier Brad Wall in the Legislature today.

Wall tabled a motion supporting the efforts of justice ministers in Canada to better protect children by combating cyberbullying, including making changes to the Criminal Code to make the non-consensual distribution of intimate images a specific criminal offense.

Last week, Saskatchewan Justice Minister Gordon Wyant publicly announced his support of Nova Scotia's push to make those changes in light of the recent suicide of Reteah Parsons of Halifax, who was allegedly sexually assaulted and bullied online.

Wyant and his counterparts met with Federal Justice Minister Rob Nicholson in Ottawa yesterday to discuss the issue further... Nicholson said he wants a review of the laws to combat cyberbullying completed by the end of June.

Meanwhile, Nova Scotia's government introduced the Cyber-Safety act in their legislature today, calling for the creation of Canada's first cyber-investigative unit.
