Every year in September, a week is chosen to help spread awareness and knowledge about Suicide Prevention. Suicide is a very serious topic that doesn't get mentioned enough in the world we live in today.

One of the most interesting facts about suicide is that anyone can make the choice to do so no matter what there state of living condition might be. There are reportedly over 800,000 suicide deaths a year over the entire world, and almost quadruple the amount of attempts of suicide.

In Canada, suicide is a popular option in causes of death and mainly happens to adults between the ages of 40-59.

In 2003, the first ever National Suicide Prevention Day was created on September 10th, and has continued to be that same day ever since. For National Suicide Prevention Week, it runs from the 10th of September to the 16th of September.

To unite together, there are members that are able to come out and share their story about what they have gone through and to know that they are not alone in their fight. There are now resources that people can turn to and have a real belonging of trust that organizations can provide real assistance.

Awareness will always be available through the form of technology, and being in person face-to-face with someone that can help. In order to beat mental illness, having someone there to talk to is key in winning the battle.
