The wind was not a friend for the players or the fans Thursday night as the Kindersley Kobras hosted the LCBI Bisons at Rotary Field. A back-and-forth game resulted in a 47-36 victory for the Kobras in front of their home crowd who sat through a chilly wind all night long.
The Kobras entered their first of two night games in a row coming off a bye week, and practiced all week without their starting quarterback as Gibson Miller and Aidan Long split time behind centre.
On the Bisons side, they scored their first points of the season alongside some great plays for the team who had only three players entering Week 1 and clearly saw some strong commitment after the first week of school.
The Kobras started the game with a few early scores, though an early interception and subsequent touchdown from the Bisons kept LCBI in the game. The teams would go back and forth from there as turnovers from both sides kept it anyone's ballgame into the fourth quarter.
With the game close late in the fourth the Kobras thought they had things sealed after another touchdown drive, but LCBI responded quickly with a touchdown of their own to make it a one score game.
Getting the ball back with under 3 minutes to go the Kobras managed to use some key passes and runs to milk the clock, and secure an under the lights win in front of a home crowd braving the cold.
The Kobras will be right back at it under the lights next Friday against Biggar. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 7:15 PM.
