McLurg High School in Wilkie brought home an SHSAA provincial championship over the weekend.

The Broncs' senior girls basketball team claimed the gold medal with a 73-40 win over Asquith, at the one-day modified version of SHSAA's provincial basketball championship tournament HOOPLA. After a few heartbreaking losses over the years, the team was finally able to break through and claim the championship.

After the deadline for the full HOOPLA tournament passed on Wednesday afternoon, the decision was made to instead hold a one-day version of the tournament instead of cancelling things altogether. Across 1A to 5A play, 1 vs 2 matchups decided the gold medal, while the 3 vs 4 matchup decided the bronze medal.

The other local team in action were the LCBI Bisons in 2A. Unable to return home with a medal, they lost to Norquay 77-44.
