The Kindersley Klippers earned their first victory of the season on home ice over the Estevan Bruins at the West Central Events Centre. Part of the Goosefest weekend, the Klippers had a large turnout which was needed to take on one of the hottest teams in the SJHL right now, of course that team being the Estevan Bruins.

Prior to Friday night's match-up, the Klippers had been playing very good hockey but were incapable of finding ways to win hockey games. Two of the three games were decided by just one goal, and one of those games went into overtime against the league's defending champions.

The Klippers stuck with their game plan and found a way to score 7 goals on just 30 shots, including a late empty net goal to add seal the deal. It was about time for the Klippers to get on a roll offensively, with only 2 total goals being scored in the first three games.

At one point in the contest, the Klippers led 6-2 but the Bruins answered back with three consecutive goals to make it 6-5. Estevan was unable to find a way to tie the game to stretch it into overtime despite 41 total shots on goal. Kindersley made a change in goal and gave Liam McCloskey the starter for the evening and he was able to help the Klippers get two points in the standings.

Kindersley and the rest of the teams in the SJHL will travel to Saskatoon for one home game and one away game under neutral play. These games still count for the regular season, and help teams deal with travelling expenses.

The Klippers will take on the Weyburn Red Wings on Monday afternoon and then will battle the Nipawin Hawks on Wednesday.
