A cougar was spotted near Milden recently.

West Central Online spoke with Rich Hildebrand with the Ministry of Environment about the incident.

Rich stated that Outlook conservation officers were contacted about a cougar up in a tree, spotted by the family dogs. The officers attended the farm, the cougar was still up in the tree upon arrival. After surveying the situation and all factors considered they deemed the best option was for the cougar to be put down. Some of the criteria in the decision was if they were to tranquilize the animal they would also need to transport it to a suitable area which they didn't feel was possible.

This particular cougar was a 4 year old female, weighing about 135 pounds and measured about 7 feet long from the nose to the tip of the tail.

If you see a cougar it's important to report it to the ministry offices, or call TIPS 1 800 667 7561.

Rich also stated cougars are becoming more and more prevalent in West Central Saskatchewan so keep your eyes peeled.
