Western Prairie female hockey took-over the West Central Events Centre this weekend. Not only did every player in the "Thunder on the Prairies" tournament enjoy a great weekend at the rink, they were treated to an exciting Kindersley Jr. Klippers win on Saturday night.

Looking at the home teams, the U13 Thunder were unable to pick-up any wins in pool play. They dropped their opener 4-1 to the Regina Rebels, and then Saturday saw a pair of losses to the Central Alberta Twins 5-3, and Calgary Fire 4-2.

Instead of rolling over for Sunday's finals, the Thunder took care of business in the D-final winning their first game of the weekend 7-4 over the Northwest Sharks.

The U15 Thunder on the other-hand swept pool play with a 4-1 win in the opener versus the Sherwood Park Kings. That was followed up by a 7-3 win on Saturday against the Southeast Goldwings, and another 7-3 final against the Winnipeg APHA Rangers.

The Thunder's undefeated record pitted them against the also undefeated Lloydminster Steelers in the A-final Sunday afternoon, finishing a 6-3 defeat for the host team despite a late push.

After the big tournament, it's back to regular season play for all local AA teams except the U13 AA Wheat Kings who are in Martensville for a weekend tournament.
