As the prime season for provincial parks is beginning to wind down, the province is outlining how they will be improving them in the future.

It was announced yesterday that almost $7.8 million are coming to benefit provincial parks in southern Saskatchewan in the 2019-20 year.

Among the parks earmarked for the funds was the Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park which will be getting campground electrical upgrades.

Last year, another southwest Saskatchewan park, Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park, also received funding for campground electrical upgrades.

Byron Davis, executive director of parks infrastructure and capital planning with the Ministry of Parks, said that an evergrowing user base is hoped to be supported through the infrastructure funding.

"With visits to the parks increasing to nearly four million annually, we want to make sure our facilities are safe and reliable, and available to our parks visitors."

He said that electrical upgrades, such as the ones scheduled to take place the Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park, will help campers achieve more comfort and stability in the park.

"With today's modern camping vehicles, larger electrical services are required, so we've upgraded those to meet code requirements and for capacity requirements for modern R.V,'s."

He said that campers had responded very positively to the upgrades to the power grids in campsites.

The provincial government said that this is the second year that an investment of $11 million is being made into parks province-wide, and is part of $100 million which has gone into the parks in the last ten years.
