Monies from the federal Gas Tax Fund (GTF) are beginning to make their way to local west central governments. The funding is designated for key public infrastructure projects. $31.2 million is the first of what will be two installments from the GTF fpr the 2019-2020 fiscal year. The federal government will also be providing a 'top-up' of $61.9 million to the province. The top-up will double each local governments amount of GTF funding based on their 2018-19 allocation.

Minister of Government Relations for the Province of Saskatchewan Lori Carr, believes the funding is  crucial for infrastructure advancement.

"The GTF provides municipalities with the opportunity to advance local infrastructure projects. The government of Saskatchewan is pleased to play a role in the program. The monies help make our communities even better places to live, work, and play."

Between Biggar, Kerrobert, Kindersley, Rosetown, Macklin, and Unity the west central region is looking at over $840,000 in GTF money for 2019. The top-up between those communities equals just over $891,000. All told, a little over $2 million will be making it's way to municipal governments in the west central region from the GTF 2019 allocations and the 'top-up'.
