While it wasn't a storybook ending considering the situation, Wilkie's McLurg School Broncs finished their season on top last weekend at HOOPLA. Playing a one-day single game playoff, the Broncs won the gold after a 73-40 victory against Asquith on Saturday, March 23.

Prior to the provincial championships, we checked in with two teams, including Wilkie, to gauge their feelings headed into the one-day of action. It wasn't what they hoped for, but neither team was about to turn down one more day of competition.

Our team played well and showed everybody what we are capable of." said Broncs' coach Mark Myszczyszyn."We played lots of 4A and 5A opponents this season and were successful more than we lost."

Myszczyszyn mentioned in the previous article how stepping up in competition all-season-long forced the team to, "clean up areas that we would have gotten away with other years." He also credited the players parents, and school support overall, before giving another shoutout to his team's tremendous work ethic.

After finishing second last year, this year's tournament meant a lot, no matter the circumstances.

"Finishing #2 last year was tough as we believe we should have done better. We believe the only way to change that is to work harder and take care of what is in our control."

The team climbed the mountain this year, but like any school sport the team is bound to change. Myszczyszyn looks forward to the challenge.

"I am happy we still have a great group of six grade 11 girls who will anchor the program and show our new girls how things are done here."

As for the five graduating Grade 12's, their high school hoops career isn't over just yet. All five of the seniors were selected to the BSI All-star Classic Game coming up in Saskatoon to begin April.
