Alsask, Dinsmore, Beechy, and Luseland can join the list of west-central locations receiving internet upgrades. A total of 61 more Saskatchewan communities will be receiving access to SaskTel infiNET service, after it was announced on Monday that another $80 million is being invested into SaskTel's Rural Fibre Initiative.

"When SaskTel completes this work, it will have invested more than $1 billion to bring its fibre optic broadband network to 225 communities and nearly 85% of all homes and businesses across Saskatchewan,” said Dustin Duncan, Minister Responsible for SaskTel. “The work being done at SaskTel, under the guidance of our government, will ensure that communities across the province have access to the communications infrastructure they need to grow and thrive for many years to come.”

More comments, including one from SUMA President Randy Goulden, are available inside SaskTel's official release available here. After being announced back in 2020, the west-central region is just one part of the province that has underwent a major overhaul when it comes to rural internet service.

SaskTel's goal sees them investing $280 million total to offer the network inside nearly 200 Saskatchewan communities. The latest announcement confirmed that all of their locations should be ready-to-roll by the end of 2027.

West Central had three communities included as part of the already completed Phase 1 and Phase 2. Monday's release saw SaskTel providing a status update for all projects through Phase 1-7.
