An upcoming day at the pool is just one of many community events keeping Town of Eston Recreation Director Garrett Turner busy.

After the pool party on August 20, the recreation team's focus will be shifted to the postponed KidSport golf tournament at Eston Riverside, a 'Winter Kickoff' in October at the arena, and then even more rink businesses as things get deeper into winter.

Their next order of business is the upcoming KidSport golf event. Turner and people around town know the importance of the program that helps keep kids active in sports.

"We do it every year. It's to raise funds for our KidSport account in Eston, and with that money lower income families, or single parent families, are able to use that to register for sports in town. That's everything from hockey, to bowling, all that kind of stuff."

The course may be littered with leaves by the end of September, but nobody will be complaining about a late fall date on the golf course. Spirits should be high as they look to raise a good amount of money before the hockey season.

"We've got donations coming in for a silent auction for it." shared Turner, who also wanted to emphasize the tournament is for all ages.

After the golf tournament they will shift their attention to hockey season, and the winter in general with a big day planned at the rink.

Turner explained how the upcoming Eston Winter Kickoff was inspired by their successful summer version.

"Out Summer Kickoff has been such a big success the last few years that we thought, why not try to do a big event for winter? A similar idea in a winter kick-off this year."

As you can see in the poster above hockey, curling, pickleball, and bowling will take over the AGT Community Centre for the weekend. After all the competition will be chance to settle down on Saturday night.

"Saturday night we are going to have a little dance in the hall, and hopefully there is some entertainment for us."

All of this and more was included in the latest Gopher Bites (above), a Town of Eston newsletter.

The final big thing Turner wanted to share is that their Gallery of Glory nominations are open ahead of the banquet in November. The Gallery of Glory has been up since 2000.

"What it is, is a way to recognize people in our community in all sorts of different areas," said Turner as they are looking for excellence in culture, sport, and anything in between.

One more thing Turner wanted to mention is that the rink will be home to a SMAAAHL matchup on November 5, when the Swift Current Legionnaires face off against the Saskatoon Blazers in a neutral-site-matchup.

Expect more from Turner and the Town of Eston as we get closer to the fall and winter seasons.
