A recent call to service for the Biggar RCMP had them looking at putting their subject behind bars — or kennels in this case.

Four separate calls regarding a suspicious vehicle parked where it shouldn't be gathered the attention of police. Each call was relating to the same 57-year-old male in his pick-up truck housing four large adult dogs and five puppies.

In one specific instance the male was found sleeping in his truck at an intersection while passersby when to work. Upon intervening police found no liquor involved, though the male was arrested on warrants out of Saskatoon and slapped with $1850 worth of dog by-law tickets.

Police dealt with the situation further, as the male was "having a hard time to find a place to rent".

The other call regarding a suspicious vehicle during the week saw members assist an individual with fixing their tire. Those calls were on the list alongside 60 total occurrences for police to deal with. A majority of their stops came courtesy of the Traffic Services Unit and their new unmarked pick-up as 25 motorists were handed out tickets with twelve others receiving warnings.

Another call shared word of a Hit and Run on Main Street that caused damage, though thanks to witnesses and assistance from the general public members were able to solve and track down the responsible party.

In more specific news 31-year-old Jesse Shutiak found himself arrested with charges of Impaired Operation, Dangerous Driving, Assault with a weapon, Theft, and multiple counts of Uttering Threats, Mischief, and failing to comply with his current probation order. Shutiak has been remanded to Saskatoon and continues to appear in court there.

A call concerning an intoxicated 25-year-old female that decided to walk to Saskatoon with a bottle of vodka was another one of note for the local detachment. Members were called out alongside EMS at 9:30 in the morning about 10 KM away on Highway 14, and the individual was placed in a safe place to rest.

Complaints on the shape of Highway 376 through the RM of Eagle Creek caused a dusty dispute as heavy hauling traffic continues along alternate routes. Moving closer to the highway, horses were reported scattered abroad on Highway 4 north as thankfully there were no collisions.

Finally, police report that it was arson that took the majority of an older homestead yard just south of Lizard Lake. The situation off Highway #4 capped off the report along with complaints about late night chain-sawing on Second Avenue in Biggar.

As always, Sgt. Dereck Crozier with the Biggar RCMP is asking residents to 'take care out there'.
