As today marks the beginning of the school year Kindersley RCMP would like to remind drivers to be mindful of the school zones in their communities.

Staff Sgt. Kevin Peterson of the Kindersley RCMP is reminding residents to be careful when near school zones.

“With the kids being back in school, we want to remind drivers to make sure to pay attention to the school zone speeds and also watch out for our kids that are in the crosswalks. Because although we like to think we're paying attention sometimes, sometimes the kids aren't. So, we got to be ready for them darting out. And especially with all the excitement associated with the first day of school. And we would also like to remind people that, if the buses are stopped and the lights are flashing, to not pass the school buses,” Staff Sgt. Peterson said.

There will also be an increased police presence at schools in the area, according to Sgt. Peterson.

“We're going to be making our presence known in as many schools as we can throughout the month of September for sure, and throughout the school year. We always keep school as a focus for our Traffic Safety initiative here, and we plan on doing that again this year as well. It’s important, the parents appreciate it, the schools appreciate it, it’s very important to do.”

Kindersley RCMP were also kept busy over the last week with investigating two fatal vehicle collisions as well as one fatal house fire all in the span of one day. All three files remain under investigation.
