Jaycee Gebhard was selected 6th overall by the new Toronto franchise in the National Womens Hockey League, but as first reported by WestCentralOnline, would be taking her talents to Sweden as the womens game there is far more developed than North America's leagues. She will be playing for Brynäs IF of the SDHL, as she starts her professional career.

"Its just a better league right now" said Gebhard "Right now its the best womens league in the world because the Canadian league got shut down, so I just thought it would be the best option to play in the best league, and get to travel a bit."

Gebhard is from Plenty, Saskatchewan, and spent the last four years at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She totaled 63 points in 36 games for Robert Morris University this past season, and was no stranger to the score-sheet over her four years, finishing above a point a game each season. The team progressed mightily through her four years, as they had to keep up with established hockey schools such as the University of Minnesota. They made a championship game in each year only winning one, and this season was a fun one as it was filled with close games and exciting times.

She captained the team in her senior season after being an A for her junior year.

She will make the move to a larger sheet of ice when she begins her career in Sweden, but is no stranger to the different ice as she recorded 4 points in 5 games at an international tournament for Canada in 2014-2015, before her first season at RMU.

As for her play style, Gebhard is a 5'3 forward with a tendency to rack up points. She states her vision and hockey IQ as her best strengths, as she often finds herself in positions ahead of the play to pick up points.

She hopes to make the move to North America in 2-3 years, when the league hopefully has more financial footing. Since she was drafted by the Toronto franchise, they own her signing rights and will have first crack at signing her upon a move to North America.
