The Town of Eston is once again going water-less on Wednesdays.  During the 2016 season, residents are being asked to refrain from watering their yards.

West Central Online spoke to Michelle MacDonald Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Eston about the the aims for No Water Wednesday.

"When discussing with our foreman as to whether or not we wanted to continue this year, he thought it was a good idea.  It just helps us to have a day we can dedicate to do more town watering, and helps us to manage our water levels overall a bit better."

With the dry conditions this year the water restrictions will be especially important.  Despite getting some rain MacDonald says the town wants No Water Wednesday to continue.

"We would like it to continue just as a practice for the season, because for one we don't know how long the moisture will stick around but also it's just a practice we'd like to encourage for people to get into the habit of doing."

Throughout West Central Saskatchewan dry conditions are making for higher use of water.  To avoid using too much, experts have some helpful tips.

  • Put leaves and bark mulch around shrubs and trees to hold moisture
  • Watering lawns or vegetable gardens in the morning near roots is the best time, to avoid quick evaporation
  • Sweep Driveways or decks instead of using a water hose
  • Installing a shut off valve that prevents your hose from running when not in use
  • Install a rain barrel that can be used instead of a garden hose
  • Only water your lawn when needed, if you step on your grass and it springs back it likely doesn't need watering
