The Elrose Monet Recreation Board will be holding its first live auction since 2019 thanks to COVID this upcoming weekend. Kaylie Ellis, who is running the auction as a volunteer, explains what the Recreation Board did the past two years.

“For the last two we did Facebook online auctions and this year we're back to live. We just actually completed a new boards and cement surface in our hockey ice area. So, we're putting our funds still towards that as well. That was a big, expensive cost for us. We got all new boards, all new glass and then new cement, now we can use that surface all year round,” Ellis said.

With the warmer temperatures, it should be used for baseball practices very soon according to Ellis.

“Ball is getting hyped up, they're looking forward to getting in there this spring and we're also looking now for the money (raised by the auction) will go towards indoor pitching equipment, maybe look at getting some volleyball nets, basketball nets, that kind of thing to use out on that surface. Then of course, there’s the general expenses and maintenance of the rink that's all involved with that as well” Ellis added.

As for what is up for grabs at the live auction, Ellis said there is a variety of items aimed at children and adults of all ages.

“We have a huge variety. We have autographed NHL jerseys; we have the famous butter tarts that usually go for a couple of $1000 for four dozen tarts, combine for a day is usually a really good one. We have tickets to Chris Stapleton; we have Rush tickets this year. They also have cases, or, I guess, seed cleaning and tons of farming related things, There's the kids ride on theatre that usually goes really well every year. We have a kids little Yamaha dirt bike, so yeah, quite a variety.”

Burgers and hot dogs will be for sale, and a bar will open to the public. The auction will run at the Elrose Memorial Hall beginning with a viewing at 4:00 pm this Saturday, March 19, with the live auction beginning at 6:00 pm.
