Nearly 50 occurrences were included in the latest Biggar RCMP report from Sgt. Dereck Crozier. 21 drivers were issued traffic tickets, and 16 warnings were handed out.

Looking at the two headline calls, first off police dealt with a report of domestic assault. That situation ended in charges and conditions put in place for distances to be kept, and no further updates.

The other case of note detailed a 35-year-old having their car keys stolen, later retrieved by police, from a 43-year-old who was looking to collect on a debt. The report states that following some mediation, the keys were tossed into the front yard and the situation was rectified.

Inside Biggar, a 20-year-old reported a minor collision with the company truck after backing into a sign at the local Esso. Another call shared some suspicious activity around the Springwater area.

Another check-stop took place for Biggar and area, in partnership with the provincial traffic services unit. Thankfully there were no alcohol related charges to report, though three roadside suspensions were given for driving under the influence of drugs, with the penalties varied.

"One driver received a 3-day suspension for their first offence and 2 others received a 21-day suspension for their second offence."

Excessive speeding charges during the week saw the pilot of a sedan pick-up a ticket on Highway #14 to the tune of $731. A little more modest of a ticket, police also caught a crossover speeding over 35 km above the posted limit for a ticket of $570.

"Traveling at speeds over 35 km above the posted limit can be a costly way of burning that carbon out of the engine."

Last week's report was headlined by a community initiative for the holidays. The final report before the big day, Sgt. Crozier also wanted to give a special Christmas message with the holidays here.

"On behalf of the Biggar Detachment, we wish everyone a Merry Christmas! Enjoy the unseasonal weather, hopefully it remains cooperative for everyone that needs to travel."
