The CP Holiday train is on the road once more, lifting spirits and raising awareness about hunger this month.

For its 17th year, the Holiday train is beginning its North American Tour, kicking off November 27 and finishing close to the end of the Holiday Season.

Scheduled stops along the route involve displays of 14 LED-decorated cars, live celebrity entertainment and a presentation regarding the Canada Food Bank.

The train will feature Kelly Prescott this year with Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo, his son, Devin Cuddy, and the Holiday Train Band.

The band is expected to perform a selection of hits as well as holiday music.

The recommended price of admission for the Holiday train is a donation of a non-perishable food item.

All food items collected each evening where the train has stopped go to the town's local food bank.

Kicking off the tour of Saskatchewan, The CP plans to stop in Bradenbury, Foam Lake, Wynward, Lanigan and Saskatoon on Dec. 6

It plans to visit Wilkie and Macklin on Dec 7.

Some food items the Holiday Train will accept are:

Whole grain non-perishable foods: brown rice, whole grain pasta, granola bars as well as hot and cold cereals

Dairy products: powdered or canned milk, milk puddings, cheese spreads.  Some locations will accept fresh milk, yoghurt and cheese.

Vegetables:  Canned vegetables and lentils, beans and other pulses, canned soup, tomato sauce, apple sauce and 100% fruit juices.

Meats and Alternatives:  Canned meats such as chicken, tuna, crab and salmon as well as peanut butter spreads and baked beans.
