Two Kindersley residents recently organized a food drive for the town, while practicing social distancing measures. Barry Andrew, and Scott Holloway of Mens Action Plan had about 40 volunteers help collect food donations from the steps of Kindersley homes this past Saturday.

“I think all of us in one way or another look for an opportunity to help support the people during these times, and that’s what this is, an opportunity for the community to rally together and support the people that are struggling through this situation, no fault of their own,” said Andrew.

Volunteers set up in the West Central Events Centre parking lot, and watched the donations come in bunches. Vehicles designated for pick-up around town had an orange tassel around the antenna, and were out in full force.

Andrew was very impressed at the outcome of the event, and one of his favorite moments came when two young girls and their dad came to donate self-saved loonies and toonies to the food bank. This charitable act was inspired by the family's own sympathy for people in need, as they knew what it is like to benefit from people coming together in the past.

An event like this is just another example of what communities can do when they assemble. A similar event took place in Rosetown during Easter weekend, instead being put on by the fire department.
