After the decision was made by the Rosetown Curling Club to effectively end their season, WestCentralOnline contacted Jason Waldner with the club for more information.

"We met as an executive board and decided that the cost of keeping the curling rink open was just not financially prudent, and again we didn't anticipate any restrictions to be lifted anytime soon based on the numbers. We decided to close, along with many other curling clubs in the province" said Waldner

Waldner says the decision came down to current case numbers, as the government continues watch for daily case numbers to stay in the low 100's. With the numbers remaining high, around 200-300 cases a day, they decided that they would do their part and shut down for the season, citing reasons aside from finances.

"Like the Premier said, we are all trying to make sacrifices. Unfortunately a lot of it is hitting the youth with their extracurricular activities, so we felt it was a small sacrifice we could make here."

According to a provided release, all paid membership fees for the 2020-21 season will be refunded, and the executive will work to access funding programs and grants to offset some of the losses incurred this curling season.

He wanted to send special thanks to the hard work of their ice technician Martin, and everyone who works in the lounge. Waldner also added that they are excited to get back to action this fall, alongside many other sports.
