It had been some time since the remaining members of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority had a chance to remember the good times. A group that had been a fundamental part of the community for so many years but has slowly dwindled to a fraction of their original numbers.

West Central Online had the opportunity to learn with the wonderful ladies about their group.

The Kindersley chapter of Beta Sigma Phi had been active in the area for over 35 years since the first chapter was founded in January of 1980. Beta Sigma Phi is still active to this day as an international cultural organization formed to promote ideals of life, learning and friendship.

An all-women’s group with an invite only policy was made up of ladies from all walks of life. Susan Fuhrman and Cathy Cox, members from Kindersley fondly remember there being women that they could call sister that they wouldn’t have met any other way.

They may have been a social club, but they were instrumental in many different fundraisers and causes for the town. Be it delivering meals on wheels for 30 years, donating to different organizations and even being the hostesses for the Saskatchewan Winter Games.

As times have changed, the group has slowly been losing members over the years. With only a few sisters remaining after all these years, their bond will never be broken. As well, there is hope that a new generation of sisters will take the torch that still burns in their hearts.
