After the extreme cold warnings being issued over the weekend, and early this week, it finally looks like some warmer weather is on the horizon. Environment Canada meteorologist Justin Shelley explains.

"We are going to see a marginal improvement over the next couple of days. We won't see those temperatures quite reach -30 overnight, but those daytime highs are still going to be around -20 to -25 for the duration of the week. While it is going to feel like an okay improvement, we are still going to see those windchills in the minus 30s."

There is also a chance of some snow from Tuesday to Thursday in the region.

“It's going to be a bit of a glancing blow for the West Central region. One system is coming down through western Alberta, which is going to affect mainly the southwestern portions of the province and then another system is going to move across the southwestern prairies Wednesday night and into Thursday. That should also remain further south of Kindersley for the most part, maybe down by Leader, could see a few centimetres, but the bulk of the snow is going to remain west and south of Swift current area,” Shelley added.

As for the warmer weather story, it looks like there is a light at the end of the tunnel according to Shelley.

“It looks like by the weekend that’s when we finally start to see a significant shift in the pattern, and allowing for those warmer temperatures to move in.”
