A bust of a large illegal tobacco shipment took place on the Trans-Canada Highway after Swift Current Rural RCMP stopped a semi for speeding.

On November 16 at approximately 1 p.m., a semi was pulled over by an officer with Swift Current Rural RCMP close to Gull Lake, for driving over the speed limit. Further investigation of the truck’s cargo determined the semi was hauling illegal tobacco products. The driver of the vehicle containing the contraband was then arrested.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Swift Current Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team and Moose Jaw Crime Reduction Team obtained and executed a search warrant in the semi and attached trailer. They located approximately 42,000 cartons of illegal cigarettes.
