Dirt bikers from all over west-central Saskatchewan gathered in Unity this past weekend for the third annual event hosted by the Unity Motocross Club and Midwest Amateur MX Series.

After a group of local riders and dirt biking enthusiasts resurrected the track in Unity four years ago, the annual event has gained traction and grown every year, attracting larger crowds and an increased number of entries.

The 2019 event brought out upwards of 90 riders and saw approximately 200 people come through the gate to watch the day long event last Saturday.

“So far, the Unity event has been out biggest of the season and bigger than we’ve seen in Unity in previous years,” said Chris Whelan, Co-founder and President of Midwest Amateur MX Series.

The rain, which halted other sporting events within the town, was welcomed by the riders as it provided much needed traction and settled the dust during the races.

“It was a perfect day, the track was a little dry but we had crews out there who were doing their best to get some water on the track and then right at intermission, we got a good amount of rain and even some hail, and it ended up making the track perfect to ride on for the rest of the races,” said Chad Bast with the Unity Motocross Club.

The largest race of the day was in the 85cc class which had a total of 27 riders competing. Collectively the day hosted 14 races with two motos each, or two races within each class, with riders of all ages and experience levels.
