Friday June 14, 2019 was Rosetown’s 29th annual Road Kill Cruise. The Road Kill Cruise is a car show put on by the Dusty Wheels Car Club. The club is open to anyone with an interest in cars and holds bi-weekly meetings.

This years cruise was a great success with many people from all over taking in the sights, sounds and tastes. The event also saw 82 cars entered with two prizes given out. One for Mayor’s choice and the other for Member’s choice.

Barry Churchman has been a big part of the Road Kill Cruise since its inception, 29 years ago. Churchman shared that there had been three awards at one point.

“We also used to give an award out for farthest distance travelled, but with trailer queens being used to haul out fords and dodges, the ones that owners were afraid to drive, it wasn’t fair to give that award out, so we scrapped it,” said Churchman, clearly a Chevy guy.

Council member and car enthusiast, Trevor Hay, was on site to choose the Mayor’s Award on behalf of the mayor.

“There were lots of nice vehicles making it a really tough choice, but I chose Glen Rieber of Wiseton’s 66 Chevelle SS.” Hay added, “As a journeyman auto-body technician I can appreciate all the time and effort he would’ve spent on this car. Very nice vehicle and very deserving of Mayor’s Choice.”

Don Morton from Biggar was awarded with the Members Choice award for his 70 Roadrunner.

Glen Adair, a one-man band from Milden, delighted the crowd playing rock hits from the 50’s and 60’s. Churchman said the music went well with the cruise theme.

Burgers were served up by The Ositis Foundation, but Churchman reported that the menu used to look a little different.

“At one time the car club did the cooking and we were quite elaborate in our cooking. We used to have roadkill on a stick when we cooked. That’s how the cruise got its name.”

The Dusty Wheels Car Club also hosts an indoor car show held the last Sunday in September.
