The Christmas season goes hand-in-hand with the shopping season.

Your children may have many toy ideas to put on Santa's list.

According to compiled lists from Parent Magazine, Toys 'R' Us and Walmart Canada, the top toys for 2015 are also some of the best recognized play-time classics.

Board games have been a Christmas family favorite for generations, and Monopoly still tops the list as the most popular board game on the holiday wishlist.

For smaller children who enjoy a more interactive experience, Pop-up Pirate is also a good choice for family board games.

Action figures remain a popular choice for the big man in red.  Disney Descendants Figurines and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles top the list along with My Little Pony and FurReal Friends close behind.

For younger folks, Fischer Price Playsets remain the big seller.  Paw Patrol also has some charming playsets available for sale.  Both brands are ideal because they feature soft corners, bright colours and do not pose a choking hazard.

Creative minds will time after time go back to the quintessential Lego playset.  It remains as popular now as it ever has been.

And with merchandising partnerships with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a plethora of sci-fi themed Lego sets are on the shelves, ready to be wrapped up and put under the tree for Christmas.

As of yet, no toy recalls have been announced for December, but it is always a good idea to keep in mind the possible hazards toys pose to small children who love putting things in their mouths.

If your child is between the ages of 3 and 6, it is always good to keep the following things in mind:

Child Safety Central advises avoiding marbles, balls, and games with balls that have a diameter of 1.75 inches or less in order to prevent choking.

Avoid giving children balloons during the holidays.  Deflated balloons pose the strongest choking hazards of any other child's toy.

Avoid toys with rough and sharp corners to prevent accidents.
