The Sun West School Division is ready to go. For some time administration and staff have been back at work preparing for the return of students this morning. At many Sun West schools that administration leadership probably looks a little different when compared to last year. A number of new individuals were named as principals and vice principals this past spring. Director of Education Randy Emmerson says the many changes occurred for any number of reasons.

"Some of those are retirements, and some of it is folks moving into different spots within their life, and some of it is division initiated. When we’re looking at leadership within our schools, we look at what we have in place now, but we also have to be looking at down the road," Mr. Emmerson shared. "To ensure that the high degree of leadership and instructional focus and engagement with our communities is something we can sustain."

While teachers and staff will have their hands full with the start of school, for Mr. Emmerson the first day of classes will about about getting through the rush and then trying to take it all in.

"We are so ready to have the students back in school. It's been a terrific summer. When the school bell rings and the kids are back in school, that’s what all of this is about," Mr. Emmerson added. "For me its mainly holding my breath and crossing my fingers that people get to where they need to get to. But then after we've settled in, it's a chance to maybe pop in on one or two schools and just feel that excitement."

Kindergarten students that begin class today will graduate in 2034.
