The Kindersley Sr. Klippers played a pair of games this past weekend and won by identical 4-1 scores. First up were the Macklin Mohawks in town for a visit back on Friday. After a scoreless first period, Sr. Klippers forward Lane Gilliss broke the ice early in the second, his 5th goal of the season. Shayne Neigum and Carson Grolla picked up the assists. Kindersley doubled their lead late in the period, as Logan Stephanson got his first as a Sr. Klipper to make the score 2-0. Tyler Traptow and Jonny Calkins picked up the assists. Then the back breaking goal of the game for the Mohawks happened just before the second period was out, as Damon McKenzie scored an unassisted marker with just 12 seconds left to make the score 3-0. The goal was McKenzie's 4th of the season.

The third period saw the Mohawks get on the board early, as Jared Hillis potted his third of the season. The powerplay goal gave Macklin life as it was now 3-1. But Kindersley responded just 25 seconds later, as Stephanson scored his second of the night in a shorthanded effort to make the score 4-1, which was the final.

Shifting gears to Saturday's game in Unity, the Sr. Klippers got off to a fast start, with Gilliss scored his 6th of the season on a deflection of a Stephanson shot just over eight minutes in. The second assist went to Calkins. Then Kindersley made it 2-0, as Carson Grolla walked into the slot and beat Unity goaltender Bryan Bridges with a perfect shot. The assists went to Brody Ryberg and Troy Boisjoli. Then late in the period, the Sr. Klippers scored to make it 3-0, with McKenzie scoring from the slot once again, his 5th of the season. Jarrett Reichert and Grolla picked up the assists.

Kindersley made the score 4-0 on a nice forecheck from Gilliss early in the second, as he picked the pocket of a Unity defender, passed it to Calkins and he found Neigum to the left of goaltender Bridges, and the Sr. Klippers alternate captain buried it, his 6th of the season. Unity came back with a powerplay goal at the halfway point of the period, with Garin Scherr beating Sr. Klippers goaltender Logan Drackett with a perfect shot from the high slot to make the score 4-1. Brandt Bertoia and Braden Lacoursiere picked up the assists, as the Miners came back with a better effort in the second.

The third period saw no scoring, but the Miners took the play to the Sr. Klippers outshooting them 15-7 in the final fame. This came after Kindersley outshot Unity 32-16 after two periods. Drackett made some great saves to keep the Sr. Klippers out front, and even made a save on an Adam Shirley penalty shot with just a minute left in the period to preserve the 4-1 win for Kindersley.

With the pair of victories Kindersley has now vaulted to second in the SWHL with an 8-4 record. The Sr. Klippers next game will be against Biggar at home on January 13 at 7:30 pm, before heading to a Wilkie for a showdown against the Outlaws on January 14 at 4:00 pm.
