Seeding season begins any day now for many farmers in West Central Saskatchewan. With the temperatures starting to climb seemingly every day, it won't be long before fields in West Central Saskatchewan are all planted and ready to go for the summer growing season.

West Central Online caught up with our Regional Crop Specialist John Ippolito to check in on soil moisture and soil temperatures. Ippolito said soil moisture was holding pretty good despite the large amount of hot sun and little precipitation that has hit the region recently.

As for soil temperature, John said it has just crept over that minimum of 5 degrees Celsius in order to begin planting and farmers could probably go ahead and start planting within the next week if they really wanted to. Ippolito also went on to say most of the gentlemen he had talked to were probably going to wait it out a little longer to begin planting with the risk of a frost still lurking.
