Snow en route, winter here to stay?

Snowy conditions are expected to continue making landfall in west-central Saskatchewan over the next few days.

Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting the snowfall to begin overnight and continue on and off until Thursday evening.

The precipitation is thanks to a Colorado low sweeping across southern Saskatchewan and Manitoba, although its precipitation totals locally are puzzling Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist Samantha Mauti.

"Some models have not much snow and some have a lot of snow for southern Saskatchewan," she said. "At this point, I have fairly low confidence in the total snowfall amounts, but I would say the most likely is in the neighbourhood of five to 10 centimetres over the next couple of days."

Snow started around midnight Tuesday, with the heaviest amounts of snowfall on Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

"It doesn't look like wind is going to be much of a factor in (the region)," she said. "It's mostly just snow."

Temperatures are slated to stay just below the freezing mark for at least the next week with overnight lows dipping into the double digits.
