The latest numbers from Statistics Canada show the wholesale trade in Saskatchewan had the highest percentage increase in the country year over year. Compared to December 2019, wholesale trade grew by 18.1 percent. This was the highest among the provinces, and well above the national growth of 4.8 percent.

Some of the biggest increases were seen in agriculture, as well as miscellaneous products, according to Statistics Canada. In all, the value of wholesale trade in Saskatchewan in December was $2.4 billion.

“Wholesale trade is an important indicator of economic progress, as it signals business confidence in the goods sector,” Trade and Export Development Minister Jeremy Harrison said in a written release. “As we've recently seen with Saskatchewan recording the lowest unemployment rate in Canada and the highest percentage increase in merchandise exports, we are leading the national economic recovery and are well-positioned to emerge from the pandemic.”
