The Sask West Hockey League is recognizing their players with a new monthly award. Webmaster/statistician Phil Heilman unveiled the first list for October/November on Sunday afternoon.

"The SWHL this year is doing the 3 Stars of the Month, aiming to recognize outstanding performances in the league and highlight great talent and unsung heroes."

The month's first award went to a goaltender who has faced more than his fair share of rubber so far this season. Brett Matlock has helped his team to a 3-3 record so far this season, sitting with a fourth ranked 2.98 GAA, and second place .926 save percentage.

"The goaltender impersonating a sheet of plywood to start the year for the Nats has been outstanding," started Heilman. "On the ice, he’s been a huge part of wins against the Kindersley Sr. Klippers and the Edam 3 stars, and almost beating an, albeit shorthanded, Wilkie Outlaws squad that peppered him with 76 shots. 76 shots!"

The second star of the month also hailed from the Nationals. Jonathon Redlich leads the team in goals with 8 and sits second on the team in assists 7.

"The Kindersley Jr. Klippers legend and seasoned veteran has been firing on all cylinders," shared Heilman. "(Redlich) has had multi point games in all but one game."

The final star of the week is another former SJHL player from the Battlefords North Stars. Rory Gregoire is on the first place Wilkie Outlaws.

"(Gregoire)has been on an absolute tear to start the year," said Heilman as Gregoire leads the league in goals with 11, sits tenth in assists, and has 17 points total highlighted by two hat-tricks. "Rory has had a point in every game thus far, scoring in all but one game."
