Gas prices, temperatures, and recently job numbers began rising in the month of March.

The provincial government released new statistics indicating Saskatchewan saw 2,000 jobs added last month. The numbers coincide with the latest budget from the provincial government as well.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was at six per cent exactly in March, which was third lowest among the provinces. Saskatchewan's third place finish remained unchanged from February and came down 0.2 percentage points from March 2016. Canada's unemployment rate in March was set at 6.7 per cent.

Other highlights from last month include:

  • Major year-over-year gains being reported for trade went up 6,900; professional, scientific and technical services up 6,000; manufacturing up 3,700.
  • Full-time employment was up 6,000 while part-time employment decreased 4,100.
  • The youth unemployment rate finished at 10.8 per cent (seasonally adjusted), third lowest among the provinces as well and below the national number of 12.8 per cent.
