Milk containers now accepted at SARCAN

 

Effective April 1st, SARCAN centers will be accepting milk containers. The change came with the provincial budget announcement.

SARCAN also began accepting containers for cream, fluid coffee creamers, lactose-free milk products and drinkable yogurt for refund of a paid deposit. Only containers will a best before date after April 1st will be refunded, to ensure deposits have been paid when the container was purchased.

 

Deposit return rates have also been changed. Aluminum, tin, and plastic containers one litre or greater in size have increased from 20¢ to 25¢. Cartons and tetra pacts less than one litre increased from 5¢ to 10¢, and 25¢ for containers larger than one litre. Glass container deposits will not see any change.

Residents will also be able to recycle their milk containers in their curbside recycling bins but will not get the deposit paid at point of purchase back.
