Coaches from Rosetown Central High School are already gearing up for fall and football season by hosting a spring football camp. Kent Carlson is a teacher at RCHS and one of the coaches of the school’s junior football team. Joining him on the field and on the bench are fellow teachers Mitch Wintonyk, and John McPhee.

The football camp is open to grade 6 and 7 students who will be attending RCHS in the fall. Carlson says that they expect to see about 24 kids participating in the camp that will take place this Tuesday, June 3rd and Thursday, June 6th. Students will meet at the football field behind RCHS and practice will run from 3:30-5:30pm.

“We have done this camp for a few years now; we focus on getting the athletes their equipment in the spring so that we can start up a little quicker in the fall,” says Carlson, adding, “Getting used to wearing the equipment is part of our focus as it’s not like anything they've ever worn before.”

Carlson explains that students can also expect to learn some basic football drills and work on general football skills. This is in an effort to help the future Rosetown Royals understand how to tackle, block, run and pass come the August start of season.
