Regular season play has come to an end for The Rosetown Angels ball team. The Angels are part of the Fertile Valley Baseball League tier one division.

On Tuesday July, 24, The Angels ended their league semi final series against The Kindersley Stallions. The teams split the first two games, forcing a third and deciding, game three, where The Stallions came out on top. The Stallions will now advance to the league final where they will take on The Oyen Eagles.

Ryan Wickett, Angels manager, mentioned how this year was unlike others, “We had a different set up this year because our league had grown quite a bit,” Wickett explained, “We are up to fourteen teams now with different goals throughout the teams, so we decided to tier the league.”

Wickett said of the fourteen teams, four opted to play at the tier one level; The Angels, The Stallions, The Eagles and a second team coming out of Kindersley, The Raiders.

The Angels played each team four times. Wickett said that although this years group of players is one of the strongest they’ve had, their records didn’t really reflect that.

“The calibre of ball was a lot higher than previous years and we ended up against some pretty stiff competition,” commented Wickett, adding, “We had a bit of a slow start to the season, but by the end, we found our stride and came out with a few wins.”

The Angels are looking forward to provincials to see if choosing to play as a tier one team will have paid off. Wickett voiced that they certainly feel ready to go play at provincials.

Provincials will take place on the weekend off Aug 9-11 in Davidson. The four team tournament will provide The Angels competition from the Central Sask Cannons, out of Davidson, The North East Red Sox, and The Meadow Lake White Sox.

Wickett also shared of the team, “We’ve got four guys around the age of twenty playing with us, kids that went through the minor ball system and came back to join us. They really contributed to the team as well as these young guys starting to phase in helps secure the longevity of the team.”

“It’s really an important and exciting thing for us to see that the Angels will be around for quite awhile.”
