The staff at Lifetime Dental in Kindersley have to feel good in the office this week for what they accomplished as a team over the weekend. The crew went to work on a Saturday, and assisted 35 patients to the tune of over $23,000 in dental work for those in need in Kindersley and surrounding areas. Dr. Krista Maedel was eager to give back to the community, after all of the support she has seen from patients during her 12 years in the dental industry.

“It was such an awesome day,” started Maedel, who got the idea for a free day of work from a colleague in Saskatoon, “We were booked solid, we had 14 team members, everyone volunteered their time for the day. There were three dentists, a dental therapist, and we got in as many people as we could and tried to do as much bread-and-butter basic dentistry on the patients we could.”

A ton of fillings, and extractions, as well as cleanings, check-ups and X-rays were done on the day. Each patient was booked for an hour each, and Maedel is impressed with how much work her team did with the time they had. The successful endeavour had the patients leaving happy, and perhaps as future customers as well.

“It was a pretty awesome day,” the dental professional beamed.

When asked if it was something the office would consider again, Maedel quickly said yes, explaining how helping people in need with something so specific was a rewarding and eye-opening experience.

“Absolutely I think it’s something we would like to do on an annual basis if we can, I think there is definitely a need in the community,” said Maedel, “It was kind of emotional to see the situations some people are in right now, so it feels good to be able to help out and give back. It’s something we can do to try and make a difference.”

Final totals from the office saw 25 exams completed, 35 X-rays, 33 units of hygiene work, 68 fillings and sealants, and finally 19 extractions. For more information on why Dr. Maedel decided to go ahead with the “Free Day of Dentistry”, find the original story below.
