It’s going to take a Saturday at the office, but the staff at Lifetime Dental in Kindersley are very excited to be able to offer their “Free Day of Dentistry” on January 8th.

Lifetime Dental announced the initiative through their Facebook page, as it will provide a chance for anyone interested to get in the chair and receive a standard teeth cleaning, as well as the opportunity to seek out and treat any other oral hygiene problems.

Dr. Krista Maedel spoke to West Central Online about the idea, one that saw tons of success when ran by a colleague out of an office in Saskatoon.

“They had done a free dental day and they said it was just such a great experience. They were able to help so many people, so I got the idea from them,” said Maedel, “It’s been something the team talked about in the past as well, so we thought this time of year was a good time and we’ve seen the need, so it’s just nice to be able to do it for the people in our community.”

Many different candidates for the free work will be coming in for different reasons. All staff are prepared to work whether it’s for a well needed once-in-a-decade cleaning, or a serious problem that just hasn’t been dealt with due to whatever reason. The office already has a long list of patients for their event in the new year, and know they can only do so much, but are just eager to help out in any way possible.

“We just want to try and help as many people as we can,” said Maedel.

The special event being put on by the Lifetime team is a great initiative, and something that would be amazing to see around other communities. They can’t just give away appointments, but when a trip to the dentist is something met by a financial barrier in some homes, just providing the service out of goodwill is truly amazing.

On a more personal note, patients who show up may already have past experience with Lifetime Dental staff, specifically dental assistant Sheri Lynch.

In November the dental clinic shared with sadness that Lynch would be announcing her retirement come December. Work is now wrapped up for the lifetime worker, as for many years Lynch was an extraordinaire at her job assisting patients with their appointments, and helping hygienists with their different dental duties. Maedel congratulated her on a great career, and noted how the office will miss her kind and genuine soul.

She won’t be around for the Free Day of Dentistry, but her friendly ex-staff members will certainly be ready to step up to the plate and provide the amazing deed of a free day under the lamp saying ‘ahhhh’.
