The world’s leading crop nutrient operation, Saskatchewan’s Potash Corp just got bigger as the company has joined with Agrium.

The two companies combined are projected to be worth approximately $36 billion US, and employ nearly 20,000 workers.

Saskatchewan will be the home base of the currently unnamed company.

Shareholders of Potash Corp will own a 52 per cent majority of the joint company, with Agrium shareholders getting the remaining 48 per cent.

The combined company will control almost two-thirds of the continent’s potash.

The deal was announced on Monday and is expected to save Potash Corp and Agrium up to half a billion dollars a year.
