Folks might be feeling a bit of relief in their monthly bills come later this year.

SaskEnergy is applying to the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel (SRRP) today for a pair of adjustments.

According to a provincial release, the proposals are for a 22.1 per cent decrease in the commodity rate (dropping from $4.20 to $3.30 per gigajoule), as well as a five per cent increase in the delivery service rate.

If approved, they will take effect on October 1, 2023, and combined would result in an overall bill decrease of approximately $5.66 per month for the average residential customer.

Minister for SaskEnergy, Don Morgan, wrote in the release that they're able to cut back to a drop in the market price of natural gas.

"SaskEnergy's commitment to provide stable natural gas rates to the people and businesses of Saskatchewan helped shield customers from the volatile price fluctuations we saw in 2022, both across the country and the world," he added.

The Panel will present its report to the Minister of Crown Investments Corporation no later than August 31, 2023.
