The U18 West Central Wheat Kings had some exciting news to share at the tail end of February. As the team embarked on their end of season playoff push, good news saw both Kaden Sperle and Austin Schafer signing on to play with the Battlefords AAA Stars in 2024-25.

Schafer is a 5'10, 165 lbs forward who led the Wheat Kings in scoring during the regular season. Schafer led the team in goals with 27, and finished second in assists with 20, good for a total of 47 points to lead the team in that category. Schafer's numbers made him a top 10 goal-scorer in the SAAHL this year.

The 5'9, 152 lbs Wheat Kings forward Sperle was the other pickup for the Stars. In the regular season Sperle had 10 goals and 13 assists, good for fifth on the team in points with 23. Prior to the season, Sperle attended training camp with the WHL's Portland Winterhawks.

With the season coming to a close, more players could be announcing their intentions for next season.
