After over 40 years of service in the Kindersley Fire Department, including 23 years as Fire Chief, Ron Hope has decided to retire from the position. West Central Online had a quick phone interview with Hope about his retirement and talked about how much of an honour it was to serve as fire chief for all those years.

“It was an honour; I was proud to have the opportunity to lead the guys and lead the department in the direction that we've gone. It was just a great honour to be able to do that,” Hope said.

We then asked Hope what he is going to miss the most about holding the position, and what he is not going to miss in retirement.

“The thing I'm going to miss the most is going to be the guys and I'm going to miss the crew. And obviously running on the call I'm going to miss. As far as the responsibility and the administrative end of it, that I won't miss. I'll be glad to kind of be putting that part of it behind me, and but I'll certainly miss being with the guys,” Hope added.

With all of his free time now, Hope said more time on the golf course is definitely coming, and spending time with his family and in warmer weather is something he also looking forward to.

Hope then ended our conversation thanking all of the members of Fire Department he served with over the years, and gave his successor (Jeff Sovern) congratulations and said to make sure to keep the department on the current path it is on.

“I just want to thank all the guys that currently serve and all the guys that have served in the past for their commitment dedication. The work is thankless, and the efforts they have to put forward are tremendous. To have guys that are committed and dedicated to showing up, call after call. And for all the training sessions is huge and I want to thank all those guys, and I've appreciated everything that they've done. And to my successor, I challenge him to continue on the path and continue to move the department ahead, let's not let things get stale.”

West Central Online congratulates Ron in his retirement and hopes his drives on the golf course are long and straight for many years to come.
