Despite delay’s due to construction setbacks and weather, the new landfill that will service 19 municipalities will officially be open for use next week.

The Western Regional Landfill Inc. (WRLI) first broke ground on the new landfill project on August 30, 2017, however, the multi-municipal initiative was recognized as early as 2013 with the Kindersley landfill nearing capacity.

The Town of Kindersley is the largest of the 19 municipalities participating in the project and will assume 46 per cent of the estimated $3.75 million price tag.

WRLI’s new landfill is located approximately 10 kilometres west of Kindersley and is accessible from Highway 7 on an all-season road that will not be subject to road bans. The new location will accept all waste that has been accepted at the Kindersley Waste and Recycle Centre including oil field waste and is open to everyone, however, those who reside within one of the 19 participating municipalities will receive lower tipping rates.

Tipping rates for members are set at $100/tonne while the non-member rate is $200/tonne and although the new site will be a no cash facility, WRLI will have a debit machine on site for payments. The new site will be open five days per week, running from Tuesday to Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The following municipalities make up the founding members of WRLI, all residents from any of the municipalities are able to take advantage of the lower tipping rates.
